InTrain HotSpot

The problem Telekom needed support for improving the HotSpot UX – from buying passes to making the concept clear to everybody interested.

Our solution Together with strong internal forces we improved the user experience significantly on all major touch points.

Execution After weeks of research and internal collection of data from stakeholders, I built a fully functioning prototype in Axure to give a feeling of what the new HotSpot product would feel like.

My role Research, strategy, concept and prototyping.

“My Burger” by McDonald’s

The worlds first crowdsourced McDonald’s Burgers

My burger image from Heye

Achievements

  • For the first time in the history of McDonald’s, fans created their own burger.
  • More than 116,000 burgers were published.
  • The five most popular burgers were featured in 1400+ restaurants all over Germany.
  • Fans’ personalised TV spots advertised their own creations.
  • With 21 million contacts, the campaign reached one in four Germans.

My burger image from Heye

The problem McDonald’s turned 40 in Germany and we didn’t wanted to add yet another product promotion ourselves. With dozens of new products every year, customers became bored with the same preset burgers over and over again.

Our solution Instead of developing burgers internally, we let the burger lovers out there do what they do best: tell & show us what they want!

Execution We built a burger configurator online, available to everybody who always wanted to build his or her own burger. The campaign was a huge success – rewarded with an Effie for exactly that reason. 116.000 burgers were created (that’s one every 26 seconds), 1.5 million votes were collected for the various burgers and with all the buzz that was generated, we reached every fourth German in total.

My role As part of the concept team I shaped vital parts like the gallery and helped to bring the biggest leap of this campaign to life: let the fans do the buzz with no media spent! I was able (as part of the strategic department) to convince the client that we shift media budgets into content spendings – before everybody else was doing it.

  • Opening up McDonald’s to a whole new way of communication – dealing with critics changed forever.

McDonald’s Post on Facebook

The problem McDonald’s is a controversial brand – either you love or you hate it. There is little in between, but convincing a brand to join Social Media under these circumstances can be quite challenging.

Our solution After months of preparation and strategic imperatives we finally made it – McDonald’s Germany got its presence on Facebook and Twitter. This “solution” was as we know just the beginning of a journey that took its time and culminated in Germany’s No.1 Facebook Brand page with over 2.4 million fans.

Execution Community management, Facebook campaigns and many little treats for fans organically grew the fan base keeping it in balance and adding up to the overall goal: make love louder than critics.

My role As the community manager for about two years it was up to me, to not only answer questions but think up new ideas and creative ways to not only amuse but nurture engagement. The best part: generating insights for later campaigns or product promotions and nerding wildly about World of Warcraft and trading card games all day long.

Changing the voice of McDonald’s online forever

McDonald's Antilittering

Achievements

  • 28.000 uploads, 1 million page impressions and 5.700 filled trash bins
  • The client thanked us for the best corporate responsibility campaign ever launched in Germany.

McDonald’s Kick the trash interface

The problem McDonald’s is littering its environment, especially in the radius of 200 meters around the restaurants. In Germany they started to use paper only at least, but we have all seen it, right?

Our solution To address teens with a topic that is sometimes slightly boring if not totally uninteresting, we made an interactive movie where you could take the lead – as a freestyle soccer player.

Execution We brought one of the best flash developers from Sweden to Germany for one reason only: 3D projection mapping. The video showed two freestyle soccer players – one male and one female – that played together with a piece of trash and kicked it into the bin at the end. Via Facebook and other channels you could not only upload a picture of yourself, but also invite somebody to play with you.

My role As a part of the creative triumvirate I was thinking up the idea as well as writing the script and concepting the page down to its wireframes. Editors note: the wireframes were later improved even further by the back then wireframe overlord Franziska.

Audi Sudden Motion Sensor Banner

The first banner in the world with motion control

Audi Sudden Motion Sensor

Achievements

  • The first banner in the world with motion control.
  • Or in other words: »Vorsprung durch Technik« (Advance through Technology).

Audi quattro Banner

The problem Audi provenly has the best claim of all car manufacturers in Germany. The downside is a constant need to prove its assertion “Vorsprung durch Technik”.

Our solution When Firefox announced their latest browser update, it shipped it with a built in possibility to read the MacBooks Sudden Motion Sensor – better known today as the accelerometer. We used this sensor to control the Audi over the web, in the first Banner that is controlled by your MacBook.

Execution Through injecting Javascript Code in addition to a standard banner we were able to read when a MacBook was tilted. Reviving the legendary Audi Schanzenspot seemed appropriate and interpreted it in a completely new way.

My role I had my struggles with the tech guys back at Razorfish, so besides the ideation it took me also a prototype to convince my CD as well as a technician that it was possible. Once I had built the prototype, the idea came across quite fast and paved the way for this idea to come true – somewhat around midnight for an hour at least. Awardshizzle, huh?

Audi Augmented Reality Calendar

The first car calendar without cars

Audi Sudden Motion Sensor

Achievements

  • 23.448 downloads in three month.
  • Numerous response mails from enthusiastic Audi fans.

Audi Augmented Reality Calendar

The problem Develop a calendar for premium Audi clients all over the world. The calendar should differ greatly from other car calendars and position Audi as innovative and modern.

Our solution The first car calendar without cars! The calendar showed only beautiful landscapes.

Execution In order to experience the cars, the user had to download an iPhone application. Using augmented reality, one could then bring out the cars onto the landscapes. Simple as that.

My role Being part of the initial creative I was developing the concept – with many other ideas that were gradually executed by Razorfish. Or other agencies later.

Razorbeer

A location based invitation tool on Twitter

Razorbeer, yummy.

Achievements

  • 39 Tweets to possible future employees.
  • 1 new freelance Art Director.
  • A six-pack cold Beck’s beer – delivered to the Head of Social Media in New York.

A six-pack Beck’s delivery

The problem Advertising offices in most cases aren’t locally rooted. They have beautiful office spaces, magnificent views and lots of nice people – one never gets to see.

Our solution A Twitter App that is responding to tweets sent nearby the office inviting the Tweeter for a cold beer – or as we call it “Razorbeer”.

Execution With my best friend Falko, I set up a Twitter robot that would respond automatically to tweets nearby. It’s that easy. The result: a new design freelancer, a rich presentation of an illustrator who is travelling the world and a six-pack of german beer delivered to New Yorks Razorfish office.

My role As the Happiness Officer of Razorfish I was the driving force of this. This is my baby, I still believe in it. I mean, who can say no to a cold one?

Achievements

  • Played 25.000++ times.
  • Used by Audi and McDonald’s for promotion.
  • Became best buddies with one of the most talented front-end devs I know.

Instagramory on McDonald’s Facebook page

The problem Instagram pictures have a lot of wrong tags. Search for “Apple” and you’ll get a lot of spam, I promise.

Our solution We wanted to invent a game that is fun and helps to rate tags given to a set of pictures. A game that uses squared images? Concentration (or Memory as we call it in Germany)!

Execution Falko and I developed a game that could be played with tags that you enter. The game was played more than 25.000 times – mostly because I managed to get it on the McDonald’s and the Audi Facebook pages.

My role I was doing the concept and the further improvements such as printing the game (for giving it as a present) and sharing possibilities.

The problem Did you know, that Tobacco kills up to half of its users? Did you know, that the average additional costs for a smoker are about $5.000 per year? Did you know that by 2014 health care is funding smokers when they decide to undergo a treatment?

Our solution Imagine if there were a playful, elegant approach to stop smoking. Forever. Well, you don’t have to imagine it, we’ve created it.

Execution Via the pressure sensor in the next generation E-Cigarette, we can measure when, how often and how deep you are taking a puff. The data is transferred and stored online – always there for you to see, analyse and share. Your health care professional can monitor your achievements and set new goals together with you.

My role Ideation. Concepting. Arduino & Processing code writing and a talk in front of 500+ people at the TechCrunch Disrupt Europe Hackathon in Berlin.

Playground

A place for testing concepts

Playground

The problem Having a basic understanding of programming and the ways things work, I come across things that are not yet perfectly implemented. I was looking for the perfect partner to help me develop my ideas further, but I learned that this partner has to be myself in many cases.

Our solution I started doing little tech demos of insight based concepts I have in mind. This space is more about early prototypes of possible features or simply a space where I can fulfil my needs such as finding concerts nearby.

Execution Occasionally I’m posting new demos of what I think might be nice on this page – be it an altimeter, a Bitcoin miner, a demo of distance in the digital space or simply a tool for finding similar new artists for your present favourite band.

My role Ideation. Concepting. Prototyping. Imbibing a cold one over it.
